We're Moving!

After a lot of research that really didn't need to be done, I've decided to move the Jeff's World Blog to Wordpress. I just like the stuff that is found at Wordpress and the stuff that I can do. Over the next couple of days, the new blog will look a little different just because I'm trying to get used to Wordpress. You can find the new blog at jeffbenson.wordpress.com.

Work weekend and procrastination

Hey Guys,
Over this weekend I had the awesome opportunity to volunteer at the local Young Life Camp and work in the kitchen with my local Young Life. I got to be a cook and it was awesome preparing food that we later got to eat (work crew's gotta eat to).

As I write this I am about to fall asleep, but I also have to write a DBQ for my AP World class and finish the last 50 pages of a book, take 5 quotes, and comment on said quotes in various fashions. Not so fun when you've been working this weekend, have gotten up at 4am on Saturday and then 5am on Sunday in order to prepare breakfast.

In other news, I finally got around to watching a series on youtube that was recommended to me by several friends. The series comprises of these two brothers who decided to cease all text-based communication for a whole year, and just vlog (that's video blog). Now you may be thinking to yourself 'Self, why would I care about the lives of two brothers and a social experiment? Does this make Jeff a total weirdo'. Well be rest assured, even though I am kinda weird ( I even admit it) these two brothers are hilarious in how they discuss life, liberty, and the pursuit of Nerdfighting. I highly recommend that anyone with some free time and the internet check them out (link at the bottom). Only problem is that in order to watch the entire series from the beginning, you literally have to go to the beginning. There's a lot of videos and this can be quite annoying. Well worth it though.

Well I guess that about wraps it up. I really do have to go and finish that work. Hope to write soon.

The 12 Days of Christmas Explained

I know it's kinda different doing more than ne post in one day, but this one just has to be posted or else I'll forget. My mom actually told me to look up this video that she got from a friend. It turns out that the 12 days of Christmas was actually a way for the early catholic church (1558-1829) to teach their early Christians how to remember their faith. Check it out. The speed of...light?

So here I am the week of Christmas (Merry Christmas by the way), and as there is every year my church does their annual Christmas program. Nothing wrong with that right? Sadly if you live where I do, you would think otherwise. Last night and into when I'm writing this there is about six inches of snow falling from the sky. So here I am asleep in my room when my mom comes to wake me up so that I can go and help with the Christmas program. I'm about 20 minutes late and my ride who usually comes because my family doesn't want to drive up that early came and left. So now I'm in a flurry trying to shove a breakfast down my throat and get to church with some time to spair. Just as I'm about to run downstairs, my grandmother(God bless her) yells up to me that the church sent out an all call and canceled church. So now I'm in my living room typing up this post in my good slacks waiting for a second call of wether the Christmas program will be later today, or wether it will be on January 4th and I can go and change back into my pajamas. Either way this has been an intresting day and, as you can see by the timestamp, it's not even 10:00 AM yet.

Districts, the real music geeks orchestra

So last week there was the auditions for District orchestra, and man were there some hardcore musicians. The expirence was so great and I now have a more sensitive perception of my music. Sadly, DV was horrible this year, only two people made it for Band and Orchestra. Congradulations to the two who did make it. I didn't fare so well this year, with a score of 42 out of a possible 200 (don't quote me on that). I didn't really plan on making it this year, I just wanted to get the expirence this year. I know I will do better next year. Anyway got to go, need to get ready for the Chorus and Orchestra concert tonight.

First off, glad to have heard today that there are some people out there who read this. Secondly, I was looking around the internet and found this awesome theme. However, I am in an internet minority and use Blogger instead of Wordpress, but in the comments of the theme, someone recreated it in Blogger XML format (shoutout to Gosublogger: http://gosublogger.com/2008/09/blogger-notepad-chaos-wordpress-template/) What do you guys think? I like it but I also need some opinions other than mine. Thanks

Found this video courtesy of a PC world newsletter(shout-out)and loved it. You'll find yourself watching it over and over again. This is literally one guy with a love for all things John Williams and a lot of time on his hands. He just sat down and recorded all 4 parts separately and then mashed them all together. Even if you don't like John Williams or Star Wars, you still can appreciate this creative mash of movie soundtracks and adapting them to one theme.

Rant: Skinheads and White Supremacy

I was watching a thing on the history channel about gang activity in the military, and I saw a guy who was part of the white supremacy group the skinheads. These people are evil in how they treat African-American people, and this really aggravates me. How would they like it if I decided to kill anyone with brown eyes? They consider African-American people sub-human. Going back to my brown-eye example, what if I think that people with brown eyes are subhuman, or people with blonde hair, or people under five foot tall. I think that these people are a crime against humanity and shouldn't be allowed to meet and scheme against the people of the world.

Sorry that I couldn't post in what seems like forever, school has been a huge time consumer. But I thought since this is my day off I might try to get a post in. Even though it might seem like I'm whining, just hear me out for a sec. Today I got a forward from my sister. Now normally I don't read these things, but I got to thinking about how much of an inbox waster they are. I have a gmail for all my mainstream email, and even though I have seemingly unlimited space, I still see no point in having them. Post your comments below on what you think. This week in VBS...

Today marks the end of my church's VBS. This year's theme was a theme park with multiple sections that included a western hall, a princess hall, a pirate hall, and a space hall. I'll post a link at the bottom that links to a photobucket page with a ton of pictures from the entire week. Shoutout to the skit people who put up with all the work during the week. I did like the music that we did this year, although next year's music does not look as promising. Later tonight is the final closing program and then it's over, finally I can get back to my work. Congrats to all who helped to make this one of our best VBSs yet.

I don't know if you have ever seen the school during the summer (unless your in AP World), but today I helped out Mr. DeVizia, along with his kids and my friend Andy, unpack an order that the math department made for supplies for the coming year. I wish that I took a photo of the scene, but it looked something like the inside of staples. I almost feel bad for Mr. D for having to unpack and catalog all of those items. I think the most that we had to count was, you guessed it, pencils. I believe we had 300+ dozen pencils for just the math department. It was kinda nice though, we stopped at Polar Bear afterwards for some thank-you ice cream. Mr. D was happy because he can pick up internet with his new iPod Touch from within Polar Bear. That's pretty much all...for now.

Ridiculous iPhone app

Of all the things that have come across my Google reader feeds this week this takes the cake. Released earlier this week was an app known as "I am Rich". "I am Rich" is a $999.99 app (no that is not a typo) that does absolutely nothing. Users who are dumb enough to purchase the app and expect to find the be all end all of iPhone apps are sadly mistaken. The only thing that the app is designed to do is display a ruby crystal to show off to all of your friends showing how rich you are. This is so pointless and I'm glad to see that today Apple removed the app, one that will surely not be missed.

Pastor Voting at Milford Bible Church

Yo to the people,
One of the things that I will do from time to time is post about important things in my life. One of those things is where I am as I write this post, the voting for our next senior pastor at my church, Milford Bible Church. I decided to tag along with my mom, since she is a voting member, and hang out in our sound room. I'm gonna try to do this in a minutes style so bear with me as I attempt this.

7:20 - Ballots were passed out for voting members in order to vote whether or not to vote him.

7:24 - Motion is made to call pastor Rob Elliot to be the next pastor

7:28 - Ballots are being counted

7:28 - In order to kill time, old favorites are sung. this is sorta hard due to the fact that hymnals were removed for the week due to VBS

7:37 - Songs are still being sung to kill time. people are surprisingly ok with no hymnals to sing from. they must know the songs well. Gotta love those old favorites.

7:39 - Who woulda thought that they would thought they would sound better without digging their faces into a hymnal (note sarcasm)

7:42 - The most upbeat I've seen the congregation in quite some time

7:42 - The long search is over, Pastor Rob Elliot is now the senior pastor of Milford Bible Church.

7:46 - Final information is given regarding when he will arrive, his wife and kids will arrive before school starts.

7:47 - The congregation sings a final song praising God for guiding us through this process.

7:52 - Retired Pastor Foster prays for the pastor and his family, and also thanks God for guiding us

7:55 - Retired Pastor Fox prays to thank God for bringing us through this time

7:55 - Voting body is dismissed, our 18 month search is over
